Tournament Information

World Dodgeball Championships

The World Championships is the premier international event in the sport of dodgeball. The first World Championships were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and were contested annually until 2019. After a two-year hiatus, the Championships return to Edmonton, Canada as the community celebrates a return to sport. Hundreds of athletes will make the trip between August 28 and September 4, 2022, representing their countries on a global stage.

In addition to the competition, the event will feature various workshops and seminars, and an industry exposition for vendors and suppliers keen on reaching not only the athlete demographic, but the audience for the week,

The 2022 World Dodgeball Championships will be the largest competition in the history of the sport, and a must for those who embrace high-energy, high-integrity international competition.

Teams & Divisions

The 2022 World Championships will feature six divisions across two disciplines, with more than 25 countries scheduled to attend. The Cloth division will consist of over 40 teams in the Women’s, Men’s and Mixed events. Historically, the teams to watch have included the United Kingdom, Austria and Australia. The Foam division will also feature Women’s, Men’s and Mixed divisions, contested by over 50 teams. Historical favourites include the United States, Malaysia and Canada.

Tickets to the event will be made available through Hometown Ticketing via the host country’s website.

Packages will include round robin 3-day passes, medal weekend passes, full event passes, and VIP tables.

The Venue

Saville Community Sports Centre (SCSC)

The 2022 World Dodgeball Championships will be exclusively played at the Saville Community Sports Centre (11610 65 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB ), located on the University of Alberta South Campus.

The SCSC is home to 350,000 square feet of recreation space including Canada’s largest hardwood installation. It is a stunning, world-class facility that accommodates a huge variety of sports and athletes each year. The SCSC is right on the city’s LRT line making it easily accessible by transit – just a 10-minute train ride from downtown Edmonton and under 5 minutes from Southgate Mall. For those driving, there is abundant complementary parking at the facility.

We will be utilizing 10 courts configured into a premier dodgeball setup with clear lines and contrasting hardwood around the perimeter of each court. This includes the Competition Court, centered within a 1,500-person arena, which will be utilized for Sunday playoff games and championships.

Celebrating its prominent location on Sir Winston Churchill Square in the heart of the Arts District in downtown Edmonton, the AGA connects the Gallery and the community, welcoming visitors to experience art first hand. The 85,000 sq foot (7,900 sq metre) AGA is a world-class centre for the presentation of regional, national and international art, education and scholarship.

Officials / Referees

Join the Referee Team

Looking for energetic, confident, sports-minded people to referee dodgeball or act as a linesperson on a world level from August 28th – September 4th at the 2022 World Dodgeball Championships at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Applicants do not need to have previous dodgeball refereeing experience, however, previous dodgeball experience and other refereeing experience will be considered an asset.

This event will follow WDBF rules (http://www.worlddodgeballfederation.com/rules/).

Rate of pay for Referees: $15 per match
Referees will be provided with an official shirt and will have meals provided throughout the day.

Referee Information

Schedules will be emailed once they are finalized. Make sure you check your email inbox and spam folders often prior to the tournament.

There is also a Meet & Greet scheduled for Tuesday, August 29th from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Delta South hotel (4404 Gateway Boulevard, Edmonton Alberta) in the Empire Room. You can pick up your schedules, shirts, and whistles this day.

There will also be a referee meeting starting at 7:45 p.m. during the meet and greet. The head referees and I will go over any rule changes or any questions you may have.

Do you want to see some of the World’s best WDBF cloth and foam dodgeball athletes compete for the gold medal? We need volunteers of various skill levels

We’re looking for energetic, confident, sports-minded volunteers from August 28th – September 4th, 2022, at the World Dodgeball Championships at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.

If you are an athlete, spectator, fan, professional, or just want to be involved we are looking to fill the following roles:
