When and where will the championships take place?

The World Championships will take place in Edmonton, Canada from August 28 to September 4, 2022

Will there be games throughout the entire week?

We are holding the entire week to ensure we have enough time and space for the event if necessary. A final schedule will be released in the early new year.

Will there be both cloth and foam formats?

Yes, there will be full divisions for both cloth and foam.

What are the divisions?

For both cloth and foam, the divisions will be Men, Women and Mixed. Six divisions in total.

How do teams qualify for the event?

This event represents a “return to sport” at the global level. Because of this, all WDBF member federations are welcome to attend. Qualification requirements will return for 2024.

Are teams required to play in all divisions?

No, members can submit teams for as many divisions as they feel they can attend.

Will there be an entry fee for teams?

Most likely. We are working on funding to ensure that any fee is minimal.

What is the current state of potential rule changes and standardization between cloth and foam formats?

A committee has been pulled together with the goal of completing its recommendations by January 25, 2022.

Will there be any requirement for travel and accomodations?

Due to the substantial funding being provided by the City of Edmonton, we are requiring teams to use our selected hotels for the duration of their stay.

Will funding be available for travel and accomodations?

We are in the process of identifying partners to help subsidize hotel costs while in Edmonton. We will not be able to subsidize the cost of flights, although we can provide group booking assistance if requested.

What are the rules around kits/jerseys?

We will be publishing guidelines for kits in the coming weeks, but the primary requirements will be team name on the front, player name on the back, and player number on the front and back. The jersey must also include the WDBF logo.

When are registrations and payments due?

Final registrations and payments will likely be required by the end of February to ensure proper scheduling. Extensions can be granted at the discretion of the WDBF based on circumstances.

Is support available for VISA applications?

Yes, the WDBF can assist with any invitations, proof of registration or any other documentation required for entry into Canada.

Will full COVID-19 vaccinations be required to attend?

We will be following national protocols and sporting best practices. At this time, it is likely proof of full vaccination will be required for travel to Canada. For Canadian residents, travel within Canada protocols must be observed, along with additional facility requirements.
