WDBF Joins World Ethnosport Union

The World Dodgeball Federation is pleased to announce its membership in the World Ethnosport Union. Following the decision by the World Ethnosport Board of Directors this month, the WDBF has been officially approved for Full Membership to the UNESCO-accredited organization.

The World Ethnosport Unıon is an international institution engaged in activities that aim at increasing and spreading awareness of traditional sports and games. The headquarters of the Unıon, which was established in 2017, is in Istanbul. By supporting traditional games and sports that are passed down from generation to generation for preserving, performing, and maintaining these activities, the institution aims to bring these activities to a more permanent and systematic state by means of an umbrella organization.

The organization aims to convey solidarity while competing, peace while having fun, and past accumulations while professionalizing through the tool of traditional sports and games, possesses the vision of becoming an internationally recognized authority in the field.

The WDBF has worked to recognize culturally significant forms of the sport, including vasati, kwepena, and boru boru, among others. Member Federations continue to promote localized versions of the sport, which receive the full support of the Federation in the preservation of culture and heritage through sport.
