The first-ever World Youth Open took place in Calgary from February 19-22, bringing together young talent from around the world. The competition featured three divisions—U18, U16, and U12—with over 200 participants representing Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Hong Kong emerged as the dominant force in the tournament, sweeping all gold medals across the divisions. The United Kingdom and Italy also made their mark, each securing silver medals in their respective categories.
The event received considerable media attention, including national coverage from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Several young athletes had the chance to speak to media, sharing their thoughts in print, on radio, and on television.
Adding to the excitement, Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek hosted a celebrity dodgeball game on the final day. The event included young athletes from all participating teams, as well as special guests from the Calgary Stampeders and the LPGA Tour, creating a memorable experience for all involved.
The success of the World Youth Open has set the stage for the development of a World Youth Championship in the coming years, promising even greater opportunities for young athletes to showcase their skills on a global platform.
