Today, the World Dodgeball Federation announced the inaugural World Youth Open.
The event scheduled to take place February 18th to February 22nd, 2025, in Calgary, Canada, will feature divisions for ages 9 to 17. Rather than hold to a strict national format, the Open will welcome clubs from around the world, allowing for multiple representation from many countries. President Duane Wysynski feels this approach will play a significant role in creating pathways for younger athletes. “The purpose of the World Youth Open is to create an high-performance international meet that will lay the foundations for an eventual World Youth Championships,” said Wysynski. “The idea is to give young dodgeballers the opportunity to play against their peers from around the world, and to give them a path forward.”
The host city is the largest in the Province of Alberta, and is well-known as a key centre for energy. It lies at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, a short drive from the resort towns of Banff and Kananaskis, and is the traditional homelands of the the Niitsitapi, îyârhe Nakoda, the Tsuutʼina peoples.
